A beta test of Minecraft: Pocket Edition is available for download for Android devices. This one is extra-special because it includes a feature that a lot of you are excited about – Redstone Circuits!

Though we’re very happy to give Google Play Store users opportunity to test this update, it’s worth mentioning that all of these features are coming to Minecraft: Pocket Edition and the Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition beta in the near future.

Here’s a quick explanation of how to join and leave the test group. We strongly recommend you make backups of your existing worlds first.

You’ll need three things to join the test:

The app will be automatically downloaded and installed on your device once you’ve joined the test. It can take a few days to appear so please be patient.

All future updates to the beta will be posted on our small blog.

In this update we are implementing just the first group of Redstone blocks, it does not include Pistons, Repeaters and other advanced blocks. Please don’t be mad!

Here’s the full changelog.

Minecraft snapshot 15w44b

Update: We’ve released a ‘b’ snapshot making End Crystals, End Rods and Tipped Arrows properly obtainable in Survival. In addition, it fixes numerous bugs and some crashes.

We’ve come a long way, but we’re finally approaching The End of the 1.9 snapshot series and are starting to work closer towards a full release.

We’ve now got almost all the features we wanted for 1.9 done and stable, with a few minor balancing and polishing tasks left to do. In the coming weeks we will focus more on performance, stability and bug fixing.

Notable changes:

Rebalanced loot found in generated chests (dungeons, for example)

Added new mechanic for respawning the Ender Dragon

New item: End Crystal. Currently drops from Skeletal Horses.

Re-rebalanced the golden apples.

Made the “buff bar” at the top of the screen properly respect hidden & ambient effects.

Made the new saturation -> food mechanic only apply when you’re not hungry

Fixed many bugs.

Bones and bone meals are now 50% cooler. No particliar reason why, they just are.

Please report any and all bugs you find in Minecraft to bugs.mojang.com. If nobody reports a bug, we can’t fix it!

To get snapshots, open your launcher and press the “New Profile” button. Call it “snapshots” and check the box saying “Enable experimental development snapshots” and save. To switch to the normal version, you can select it in the dropdown at the bottom left corner of the launcher. Back up your world first or run the game on in a different folder (See the “new profile” dialog).

Snapshots can corrupt your world, please backup and/or run them in a different folder from your main worlds.

Cross-platform server jar:

Minecraft jar

Report bugs here:

Minecraft issue tracker!

We're updating our legal documents

Hello!

We’re updating our EULAs, Brand and Asset Guidelines, and Website Account Terms today, as well as releasing some brand-new Commercial Use Guidelines. I know that’s an intimidating first sentence but you don’t need to panic. If you want to jump in at the deep end, view all of our legal documents at account.mojang.com/terms and minecraft.net/terms

The majority of the changes won’t affect most of you, but we think it’s worth trying to explain the reasons behind them. The changes go into effect on November 20.

How our Commercial Use Guidelines affect videos and streams

Though we’ve explained the ways you can make money from Minecraft in the past, our Commercial Use Guidelines represent the first time the rules have been laid out in a formal way, and in multiple languages.

Again, there’s nothing to worry about here - you can still monetize your servers and videos. The most significant change is that, if you decide to restrict your stream to paying users, the video must be made available for free 24 hours after the original broadcast date. Just like all user-created Minecraft videos, you’re free to monetize your work with ads, if you please.

We’re happy for you to make money for your hard work and to feature an exclusivity period for dedicated fans, but we don’t like the idea of permanently restricting Minecraft content to a select group of players. That’s not in the spirit of the game.

How the new Commercial Use Guidelines affect sales of hand-crafted Minecraft things

Minecraft inspires lots of people to create lots of cool things. Considering the nature of the game, it’s no surprise that people create bespoke, real-life items and want to share them with the world. We’re OK with you doing this, but for obvious reasons we need to include a few caveats: your designs must be unique, you can only make 20 versions of each individual item, and you can’t make over $5000 from sales each year.

There’s a lot more to this, so if you’re selling real-life items inspired by Minecraft we strongly recommend you check the full Commercial Use Guidelines.

Changes to the EULA and Terms of Use

We use EULAs and Terms of Use at Mojang. As you might have heard, Mojang is now owned by Microsoft, a U.S. company. For that reason, we needed to make some changes to abide by the law and Microsoft’s policies. To reiterate, these changes won’t affect the most of our community, but here’s an attempt at explaining what’s been changed and why.

First: indemnity. The old terms used to say that anyone who caused us legal trouble would have to pay us if the issues cost money to fix. Now, you don’t have to pay us. Instead, new terms say that we’re no longer responsible for any of your damages. This is Microsoft’s policy, and since we’re not in the habit of suing our customers, it seems like a good idea to us.

Next, arbitration and class action waiver. This change only applies to U.S. residents. Lawsuits can take a long time and can be expensive. Microsoft moved to an arbitration policy beginning in 2011, which makes potential issues simpler, faster, and less expensive to to resolve on an individual basis. That’s a very simplistic way of describing what an arbitration policy is so, if you’re interested, read Microsoft’s explanation.

Third-party owners complaining about stuff

The agreements now state where IP owners should send complaints if they find an IP infringement on our servers or websites. For example, if someone is linking to an illegal download link from in-game chat on a Realms server, they know who to call; it’s us. This doesn’t affect YouTube videos, third-party servers, or anything else you’ve created. Any complaints about those things will need to be sent elsewhere.

All of our legal documents, localised in most major languages, are available at account.mojang.com/terms and minecraft.net/terms

Thanks for reading, people! Be good! Follow the law! Eat your greens!

Cobalt delayed until February 2016 :(

Hi everyone,

You’re probably already familiar with Cobalt - a game published by Mojang and developed by Oxeye Game Studio.

Watch the trailer below, if you like.

Unfortunately, despite what that trailer says, we’re not going to hit our planned release date of October 30th. Cobalt has been delayed until February, 2016.We’ve been working on Cobalt for a long time and, though the game is feature complete, our current build is buggier than we’re comfortable with. We want every part of Cobalt - the campaign, challenges, and local and online multiplayer to live up to your expectations, no matter which platform you play it on. That’s going to require a bit more development time.

We’ve been working on Cobalt for a long time and, though the game is feature complete, our current build is buggier than we’re comfortable with. We want every part of Cobalt - the campaign, challenges, and local and online multiplayer to live up to your expectations, no matter which platform you play it on. That’s going to require a bit more development time.

In honesty, we don’t need four months to fix the outstanding issues, but releasing a game on console is an especially complicated business. There are release windows, and certification things, and all kinds of boxes that need to be ticked before games can be released into the wild.

So yes, amend your calendars - February 2016! Cobalt’s new release date! It’s going to be a blast!

Thanks for your patience,

Halloween skins coming to Pocket and Windows 10

The scariest time of the year is almost upon us! Aside from Minecon, Halloween is the only times that the average person will respect your need to roam the streets dressed as your favourite Minecraft mob. Sad but true.

In true Minecraft tradition, we’ve created a themed skin pack for Minecraft on Windows 10 and Minecraft: Pocket Edition to celebrate. But we’ve done something special this time around. This year’s pack is more about dressing up as your favourite mob - it’s kinda like your Minecraft avatar is about to head out for a trick or treating session, just like you might do on October 31st.

I think this is one of the most creative skin packs we’ve done so far. I hope you enjoy it too!

Boo! Minecraft: Pocket Edition update is out!

Hello!

We’re super happy to present update 0.12.3 for Minecraft: Pocket Edition and Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition Beta.

Here’s the tweaks:

[JIRA 9985] Tooltip position was incorrect and visibility time was too short

Sneaking (Crouching) animation is now visible from First Person View

Fixed so controller doesn’t lose its functionality on the death screen

Prevented Mojang logo from appearing sideways on iPhone 6+

Stopped so mining strength doesn’t passively grow, allowing one-hit breaks

Item from 1st slot of hotbar got duplicated when placed on different hotbar slot from inventory

Fixed so saving doesn’t corrupt Monster Rooms

Controller tooltip (“[X] Tab”) doesn’t overlap in the hotbar in Inventory Menu

Player couldn’t use controller’s D-pad to navigate through Inventory Menu

Have a great gaming weekend and if you manage to find some scary bugs, please report here:

Halloween Mashup pack coming to console

Hi, everyone!

Minecraft is about to get spooky!

The good folks at 4J have created an entire mash-up pack dedicated to the eeriest time of the year. Not only does this Halloween pack include a whopping 43 skins, a creepy texture pack you can apply to your other Minecraft worlds, and ghostly music, it comes with an entire world that’s guaranteed to scare you senseless. Well, that’s not actually true, but it is kinda freaky. There’s even a rollercoaster that you and your friends can ride on as many times as you like for no additional charge. The ride doesn’t feature boring things like height restrictions or tickets, you’ll be happy to hear.

The Halloween Mashup pack is available on all console versions of Minecraft and costs $3.99. The skins on offer have something of an old-school Hhalloween vibe. Here are some examples: Grim Reaper, Bride of Frankenstein, Wicked Witch, Tree Face, Mad Doctor, Swamp Monster and, of course, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. As with all our packs, you’ll be able to download a few of them for free.

The Halloween Mashup pack is available this Friday, October 23rd on all console versions of Minecraft and costs $3.99, or the equivalent price in your region.

Oh, and just in case any Pocket Edition or Windows 10 Beta players are reading this, don’t worry - you’re getting something equally special to celebrate Halloween. Check the Mojang blog this Friday for more info.

Have a great Halloween and a ghastly time on Minecraft, spooklets!
